Трохи пізно, але

implementation 'com.google.android.material:material:1.2.0-alpha06'

працює правильно, тому більше не потрібно переходити на альфа02.

Я вчора натрапив на ту ж проблему. Моя пов'язана з

com.google.android.material.appbar.AppBarLayout

компонент. Не знаю точно чому, але додавання android:background="..."вирішує це.

до
